Aldermen approve pay raises for elected officials

During a quiet, 18-minute election night meeting, the Eunice Board of Aldermen approved introducing ordinances for salary raises for elected officials including 101% for themselves. After the meeting, Mayor Scott Fontenot described the pay raises as long overdue.

School Board incumbents had a rough day

There were seven incumbents on the ballot in Tuesday’s election and only three emerge victorious. The showing may reflect the defeat of two School Board tax proposals. Five incumbents were unopposed. They included District 13 member Mary Ellen Donnatto. Incumbent St.

Eunice incumbent defeated, another faces runoff

Political newcomer Randall “Randy” Reed defeated incumbent Eunice Ward 3 incumbent alderman Ernest Blanchard with 55% of the vote. Reed polled 276 of the 502 votes cast in the ward. In a candidate forum, Reed said, “Some of the main things I see wrong with Ward 3 is community involvement.

LeBouef wins police chief race

Eunice voters opted for experience and elected Kyle LeBouef as their next chief of police with 54% of the vote. There were 2,362 votes cast in the election, which represents a 40.3% turnout. LeBouef was followed by by Cody Andrepont with 23% and Varden Guillory with 23%.

Players’ Theatre presents ‘Same Time Next Year’ The Eunice Players’ Theatre presents “Same Time Next Year,” by Bernard Slade. The production begins at 7 p.m. today, and continues Saturday and Nov. 15, 17, and Nov. 19. A matinee at 2 p.m. will be held Sunday. A dinner theatre will be offered on Nov.

LeBouef wins race for police chief

The chief of police race in Eunice, Kyle LeBouef won the job with 55% of the vote followed by Cody Andrepont with 23% and Varden Guillory with 22%. In Eunice voting, there appears to be runoff for the Ward 2 alderman position.

Vets program set for Friday at VFW Hall A Veterans Day program will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the VFW Post 8971 Hall, outdoors by the tank, weather permitting. Part of the program will include the Eunice High School marching band, and the Boy Scouts Troop 425.

By Harlan Kirgan Editor The St. Landry Parish School Board approved a resolution to support a new grading system for schools. The resolution counters a proposal to stiffen requirements for high school evaluations that now rate 70% of schools as A or B.

Benefit Rally for Rozas set Nov. 5 A “Rally for Rozas” will be held from 10 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Parc International, Lafayette. The benefit will be for Brian Rozas, a native of Eunice, and a Lafayette Police Officer who was seriously injured on Aug. 14 in downtown Lafayette.
