The 13-member Evangeline Parish School Board will have a new look to it after all but two incumbents were defeated on election day held Tuesday. Members Lonnie Sonnier, Karen Vidrine, Mike Fontenot, Sheila Joseph and Wanda Skinner were elected with no opposition.

Mamou elects new mayor, chief

Voters in the Town of Mamou have elected a new amayor and new chief of police after all the numbers were reported on Tuesday. Leisa Deshotel, current alderman-at-large, defeated current mayor Ricky Fontenot after receiving 51% of the vote. Deshotel said, “I’d like to thank everybody in Mamou.

LSUA partners with LSUE to bring surgical technology degree to LSUA

ALEXANDRIA — LSUA and LSUE commit to a Health Professions Collaborative Agreement to bring a surgical technology degree to central Louisiana.

St. Landry Parish sales taxes up 5%

St. Landry Parish sales tax collections through October totaled $75,692,884 and were up 5% or $3,574,745 over the same period in 2021, according to statistics released by the St. Landry Parish School Board tax division.

Vets program set for Friday at VFW Hall

A Veterans Day program will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the VFW Post 8971 Hall, outdoors by the tank, weather permitting. Part of the program will include the Eunice High School marching band, and the Boy Scouts Troop 425.
