Geno Delafose returns to the Zydeco Capital Jam

Fan favorite Geno Delafose returns to the monthly Zydeco Capital Jam from 1 to 3 p.m. Dec. 10 at the St. Landry Parish Visitor Center, I-49 exit 23, in Opelousas. Delafose plays the jam for the first time since January 2020.

Tiger Woods welcomed at Coushatta

KINDER — Famed golf champion Tiger Woods attended the the third annual Notah Begay III Junior Golf National Championship at Koasati Pines at Coushatta Casino Resort. The event featured the nation’s best junior golfers competing for the top honors in their respective class.

Jobless rates tumble, workforce increases

Tri-Parish unemployment rates tumbled in October and the workforce rose to 68,181, according to data released by the Louisiana Workforce Commission on Wednesday. Louisiana’s not seasonally adjusted unemployment rate is again at a record low. The October not seasonally adjusted rate is 3.1%, 0.

Jenkins named Louisiana Superintendent of the Year

Patrick Jenkins, superintendent of St. Landry Parish School District (SLPSD), has been named the 2023 Louisiana Superintendent of the Year by the Louisiana Association of School Superintendents. The program is designed to recognize the outstanding leadership of active, front-line superintendents.

Longtime parish politician Courville dies

Gary Courville, who served 23 years, first as police juror and finally as a parish councilman, died Nov. 30. He was 74 years old. Courville was 68 years old when he was defeated by Coby Clavier for the District 13 Council seat in the 2015 election. “I tried.

Early voting ends Saturday

Early voting for the Dec. 10 election ends Saturday. In St. Landry Parish as of Tuesday, 661 votes were cast in person in early voting that began Nov. 26. There have been 735 votes cast when absentee votes are added to the total. As of 5 p.m.

Eunice traffic suit dismissal reversed

A traffic case that occurred in Eunice, but was filed in the 15th Judicial District Court was sent to the 27th Judicial District Court in Opelousas.
