Concealed carry permit class Saturday
The St Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office will host a one-day concealed carry permit training class beginning at 7:30 a.m. Saturday at 211 W. Park Ave. in Eunice.
The course is $100 and $80 for a spouse or renewal.

Kennedy retires as deputy police chief

Retiring Eunice Police Deputy Chief Tony Kennedy was recognized on his retirement at the Board of Aldermen meeting on Tuesday.
Kennedy served as deputy chief since 2020 and retired effective Jan. 3.

Parish sales tax collections top $90M in 2022

St. Landry Parish sales tax collections rose to $90,142,152 in 2022, up 5.2% from collections in 2021.
But there were signs sales tax revenue is slowing. In December, collections totaled $6,787,545, down 11.4% or $874,178 from November’s total of $7,661,723. The December collection total was down 3.

MLK celebration is Jan. 15
The 36th Martin Luther King Jr. City-Wide Celebration is scheduled Jan. 15.
The theme is “Together We Can Be the Dream” and guest speaker is Bishop Brian K. Stevens, of Abbeville.
A parade is to start at 2 p.m. with assembly at the Eunice City Hall parking lot.

City asked for paraking space variance at planned Dollar General store

The City of Eunice is being asked for a parking space variance from 53 to 32 parking spots at a planned Dollar General store planned on La. 13 and Gum Street.
That’s one of the agenda items for Tuesday’s Board of Aldermen meeting.

Eunice city officials take ceremonial oaths

The City of Eunice held an inauguration ceremony Thursday at the Eunice High School Auditorium with Van Reed as master of ceremonies.
The event was ceremonial. Officials took their official oaths on Jan. 1 at City Hall.
