LeJeune honored today

The Center for Louisiana Studies announces the unveiling of a new marker celebrating legendary Cajun musician Ira “Iry” LeJeune in Church Point at 5 p.m. today. The City of Church Point has declared October 27 as “Iry LeJeune Day” to honor native son and legendary Cajun musician.

Downtown entertainment, Halloween events on tap

Several events are planned for Eunice through Monday. Tonight, the second Fall into Downtown is schedule to begin at 6 p.m. on 2nd Street. Live music will be Three Thirty Seven, and Lost Bayou Ramblers. The event is free and there will be food vendors. On Sunday, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

146 cast ballots in early voting here

As of Tuesday, 146 ballots had been cast in early voting at the Eunice City Hall for the Nov. 8 election. In St. Landry Parish, 675 votes had been cast in person. Total votes cast in early voting in the parish tallied 2,093, according to Secretary of State’s website.

Locking doors is fundamental to school security

A fundamental to school security is as simple as keeping doors locked. Sgt. Thomas Kimrey gave that assessment to the St. Landry Parish School Board Executive Committee at meeting Monday. Kimrey is heading a safe school program for St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz.

US 190 eastbound at 4th Street in Eunice lane closure announced

The outside lane of US 190 eastbound near its intersection with 4th Street in Eunice will be closed on from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, weather permitting. The closure is necessary to allow crews to perform repairs to drainage structures.

Local candidates had a chance to make their case at Eunice Chamber of Commerce political forum held Tuesday at LSUE. And, it was just in time for the seven races. Early voting for the Nov. 8 election begins Tuesday and continues through Nov. 1, excluding Oct. 30.

Concealed carry class Saturday The St Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office is hosting aone-day multi-state concealed carry permit training class at 7:30 a.m. Saturday at 211 W. Park Ave., Eunice. The course is $100 and $80 for a spouse or renewal.
