Eunice Mayor Scott Fontenot may revive the city’s library and recreation boards after Tuesday’s Board of Aldermen meeting. Alderwoman Germaine Simpson brought up the need during the meeting by noting both boards have become inactive.

City awarded $400K for walking park

The Eunice Community Nature Trail is to receive $400,000 in COVID-related funds to rehabilitate the walking trail. Mayor Scott Fontenot announced the grant awarded by Gov. John Bel Edwards following a meeting Thursday to set the agenda for Tuesday’s 6:30 p.m. Board of Aldermen meeting.
Two Eunice High School students, Baylie Guillory and Dylan Fuselier, were recognized at the St. Landry Parish School Board meeting Thursday. School Board OKs $1K stipend

The St. Landry Parish School Board spent most of its meeting time recognizing student achievement during their meeting Thursday. The Board approved a $1,000 stipend for full-time employees and $500 for part-time employees from COVID relief funds.

Courthouse Confederate monument to be moved

What to do with the monument to Confederate soldiers on the St. Landry Parish Courthouse grounds is scheduled to come up again at the Council’s April 20 meeting. Another round of public comment on the monument occurred at Wednesday’s Public Works Committee meeting.
