Pickleball offered at LSUE gym Pickleball will be offered at LSUE gymnasium from 1 to 3 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday and from 9 to 11 a.m. May 14. Beginners are welcomed. No experience needed. Paddles and balls are provided and coaches are available to teach you.

For two weeks the St. Landry Parish School Board has discussed consolidating and closing schools, but Thursday the issue was left off the agenda.

Statue to honor Saint Landry

Bruce Gaudin with the Opelousas Rotary Club informed the Eunice Rotarians Wednesday about an upcoming Centennial Celebration and Dedication of the statue of St. Landry. The dedication ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. on May 24 at the St. Landry Parish Courthouse Square in Opelousas.

Parish sales tax collections grow 7%

St. Landry Parish sales tax collections totaled $30,105,756 through April, which was up 7% over the same period in 2021, according to St. Landry Parish School Board tax division. April collections were $8,638,042, up $227,603 or 2.7% over the April 2021 collections.

School closings are among issues facing School Board

One St. Landry Parish School Board member referred to this as “time to rip the Band-Aid off.” That’s about closing some schools in the parish — Washington, Palmetto and Grand Prairie.
