Tri-Parish unemployment rates down, workforce up

Tri-Parish unemployment rates in April were down from a year ago and the workforce increased, according to data released by the Louisiana Workforce Commission. Louisiana’s not seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for April of 3.5% is tied for the lowest in series history. The rate of 3.

Eunice student is on McNeese rodeo team

With the last two rodeos on the season complete, the McNeese State University men’s rodeo team is the champion of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association’s (NIRA) Southern Region and the women’s team has finished in third place.

Hillary’s long journey home

The solemn bugle tones of “Taps” and the 21-gun salute from a military honor guard were long overdue when Army Pvt. Hillary Soileau was finally laid to rest in Cedar Hill cemetery in Washington on May 21. Nearly 80 years overdue.

Acadia Parish Tourism Commission rebrands

The Crying Eagle Lodge near Basile was the perfect setting for the unveiling of the new brand for the Acadia Convention and Visitors Commission Tuesday morning. The Lodge is a little-known jewel of Acadia located just off La. 97 in the northwest corner of the parish.

Area chefs are among the dozen selected to compete in the 15th Annual Louisiana Seafood Cook-Off. They are among eight first-time competitors vying to take the crown of King or Queen of Louisiana Seafood. This year’s competition will be held June 7 at the Cajundome Convention Center in Lafayette.

Rotarian pedals to eradicate polio

Ralph Zuke, a Rotarian from St. Louis, Missouri, made a pit stop in Eunice at noon Thursday at the VFW Post 8971 as he pedaled towing a “Barcalounger Rickshaw” on his way to the Rotary International Convention in Houston. Zuke’s 1,000 mile trip is in support of Rotary’s mission of eradicating polio.
