7 positions open on the parish tourist commission

The current and past directors of the St. Landry Parish Tourist Commission requested the St. Landry Parish Council follow state law in filling seven seats. The Council has been filling seats on the commission by requesting applications.

School Board requires masks in school

By Harlan Kirgan Editor OPELOUSAS — The St. Landry Parish School Board on a 9-2 vote is requiring students and employees to wear masks until the COVID test positivity rate reaches 5% or below. The school system has its own testing program, which is showing positivity rates for the virus at 10%.

Eunice Food Bank gets a deal on a delivery van

A Christmas miracle came through for the Eunice Food Bank. A new or used van was in dire need at the food bank. The van is used for food pick ups and deliveries. An older van that was used had broken down and would have been too costly to fix. The word was out for the need of a van.

Eunice resident and Ville Platte native Cecil Green Sr. is a contributing musician to the Grammy nomination of Corey Ledet’s Best Regional Roots Album. Green’s contribution to the album “Corey Ledet Zydeco” is for organist and music arrangement.

First baby of the year at Acadian Medical Center arrived on Jan. 1

The first baby of the year at Acadian Medical Center is Slade Michael Picou born at 5:05 p.m. Jan. 1. He weighed 7 pounds and 14.8 ounces and measuring 20.5 inches in length. The parents of the baby are William and Leslee Picou of Eunice. Slade is the Picous’ first born. His pediatrician is Dr.

Chataignier sewer rate increase posed

Chataignier Mayor Justin Darbonne does not want to raise the sewage rates, but they may have to be raised because the sewage de-partment is operating at roughly a $1,000 shortfall each month. During the council meeting Dec. 13 the mayor broke down the sewage costs.

Eunice person arrested in crash that killed Eunice city clerk

Sarah Zaunbrecher Chapman of Eunice was arrested and charged with the New Year’s Eve crash that left a Eunice City clerk dead. According to Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Department, “On the 31st of December 2021 at approximately 11:23 pm.
