$3.8M pavement project on La. 178 to begin Thursday

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announces that beginning Thursday construction will begin on a $3.8 million project that will include a 2.457-mile section of La. 178. The project begins at the west junction of La. 182 and ends at the east junction of La. 182.

Downtown Litter Walk set Sept. 20 The National Public Lands Day will have a Downtown Eunice Litter Walk Day on Saturday, Sept. 20 with registration from 9:30 to 10 a.m. and the walk from 10 to 11:30 a.m. and water and snacks from 11:30 until noon. Volunteers are needed.

Hebert, Arvie named Cotton Festival royalty

The Louisiana Cotton Association announced the royalty for the 71st annual Louisiana Cotton Festival, which will be held from Oct. 6 to Oct. 12. Carissa Ann Hebert is being honored by the festival board as Colonel Cotton this year for her dedication to the festival for many years.

Parish Council faces $4.6M debt request

The St. Landry Parish Council faces a decision on Parish President Jessie Bellard’s proposal for a $4.6 million revenue bond to pay off past and current expenses. The debt issue is on the Council’s agenda for its meeting on Wednesday in Opelousas.

Judge explains appeals court

The guest speaker Wednesday at the Eunice Rotary Club meeting was Jonathon “JP” Perry, a Louisiana 3rd Circuit Court of Appeal judge. He was a former police officer, a Kaplan City Council member, an attorney and a former state senator.

911 terror attack remembered

There was an In Honor & Remembrance 911 ceremony held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Circle Park in Eunice.
