Veterans Day program set The VFW Post 8971 will have a Veterans Day program at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the VFW Post Hall on U.S. 190 East. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Lloyd Antoine.

School Board finished its fiscal year in the black

The St Landry Parish School Board finished its 2019-2020 fiscal year with a $2,612,450 surplus in its general fund. Tressa Miller, finance director, delivered the news during the Board’s Finance Committee meeting on Oct. 27. The financial finish nearly went without comment.

Arrest made in I-10 shooting death

An arrest has been made in the Oct. 22 shooting on Interstate 10 that injured six people and resulted in the death of an unborn baby.

Development by Evangeline Downs stalled by COVID-19

Planned development on the Evangeline Downs property in Opelousas has been stalled by COVID-19, according to Bill Rodier, St. Landry Parish Economic Development executive director.

Joubert left a lasting mark on Eunice

Much of how Eunice identifies itself today can be traced to the administration of Mayor Curtis Joubert. Joubert served as mayor from 1981 to 1995. Joubert died Oct. 30. He was 89. Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Eunice is in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be held from 4 to 10 p.m. Friday.

Judicial races decided in parish

Ledricka Johnson-Thierry won election as 27th Judicial District Court Judge for Division C with 71% of the 7.400 votes cast in the race Tuesday. Johnson-Thierry defeated LaDonte Murphy for the seat held by Judge Alonzo Harris, who is retiring. Harris serves as chief judge for the district.

Trump wins the St. Landry Parish, state vote

As of Wednesday morning there was no declared winner of the presidential contest. According to Associated Press, President Donald Trump has 48.2% or 67,247,568 votes to challenger Joe Biden’s $69,892,239 votes.

Darbonne fends off challengers to win reelection

Eunice City and Ward 6 Marshal Terry Darbonne won a fourth term by defeating two challengers in Tuesday’s election. Darbonne won 53% — 2,805 votes— of the 5,244 votes cast in the Ward 6 election. The results are unofficial from the secretary of state’s website.

Pitre wins race for district attorney

Political newcomer Chad Pitre won election as 27th Judicial District Court district attorney with 52% of the 39,138 votes cast in Tuesday’s election. Pitre defeated incumbent Charles Cravins, who ran as a Democrat. There was a 64.
