St. Landry Parish public schools to start Sept. 8 -- virtually

The St. Landry Parish School Board decided to move its start date from Aug. 20 to Sept. 8 in a special meeting on Monday. The Board also held firm on its directive to begin the school with virtual classes.

The following are arrests reported by the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office. August 1-3 Eugene Gallien, Jr., 30, 4000 block of Highway 104, Opelousas. Second degree battery. Arrested by Opelousas Police. Aaliyah Parker, 26, 200 block of Southern Creek Circle, Haughton, LA.

Sylvia Ann O'Pry Bourque

On Sunday, August 2, 2020, Sylvia Ann O’Pry Bourque passed away peacefully in her sleep. She was 84 years old. Sylvia was the mother of seven children, eighteen grandchildren, thirty-five great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.

Sue Reed Bushnell

Sue Reed Bushnell passed away on Saturday, August 1, 2020 at the age of 63. A Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday, August 4, 2020 at 10 a.m. at St Augustine Mausoleum in Basile. Deacon Robbie Leger will officiate.
