Free COVID 19 testing at the north side campus of Eunice High School was administered from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday. The Louisiana National Guard personnel out of Lafayette were on hand for the curbside testing. Another COVID 19 free testing will be performed at Eunice High School from 7 a.m.

Eunice man accused of stealing school laptops

A Eunice man is accused of stealing eight Chromebooks from a portable building classroom at Eunice Elementary. Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot said Walter Michael Slaughter, 25, was charged with simple burglary.

3-way race for Eunice marshal develops

At the end of qualifying Friday, a three-way race for Eunice city marshal developed. Incumbent marshal Terry Darbonne is being challenged by Marcus Bergeron and Gerald Watley. The deadline to register to vote in person or by mail is Oct. 5.

Tri-Parish workforce shrinks 4.9% from a year ago

The Tri-Parish workforce in June was down 4.9% compared to a year ago even as coronavirus-battered unemployment numbers improved from May. The total workforce in June was 65,577, down 3,346 from the June 2019 workforce, according to the Louisiana Workforce Commission.

Roberts Cove Germanfest canceled, COVID-19 concerns

The executive committee for the 26th Roberts Cove Germanfest planned in October of 2020 has announced the festival held in Roberts Cove each year has been cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The following are arrests by Eunice Police. July 28 Gary Paul Wilson, 58, 400 block of Nimitz, Eunice. Theft, value less than $1,000. Jody Tovarras Thomas, 41, 100 block of Devillier Road, Eunice. Entry on or remaining or on land after being forbidden, disturbing the peace by intoxication.
