Compromise bill on auto insurance approved

Republican lawmakers and Gov. John Bel Edwards agreed Tuesday to make changes to the state’s civil justice system that could limit damages in personal injury cases in an effort to lower car insurance rates.

Crowley City Hall closed to public due to COVID-19 concerns

In response to the recent rise in COVID-19 cases in the area — and, specifically, in Acadia Parish — Mayor Tim Monceaux announced Tuesday that he was closing city hall to the public. Similarly, City Judge M’elise Trahan announced that Crowley City Court offices will once again close to the public.

LPB to televise math instruction

In an effort to support continuous learning for all students during the summer months, the Louisiana Department of Education announced it has expanded its partnership with Louisiana Public Broadcasting (LPB) to televise high-quality math instruction on a regular schedule from July 6 to July 31.

City’s fire rating improves and that mean insurance savings

The city’s fire rating has improved from 4 to 3 and property insurance premiums should be headed down. Eunice Mayor Scott Fontenot said he has seen premium reductions of 16.8% to 19% after the rating improved. The rating is on a scale of 1 to 10 with 1 being the best.
