Elaine Marie Manuel Newman, 69, passed away Tuesday, April 7, 2020, at her residence in Lafayette. Elaine was born May 1, 1950, in Eunice and was a long-time resident of Acadiana. She graduated from Basile High School and went on to attend McNeese State University, obtaining a bachelor’s degree.

Suspect in dice game shooting sought

Rayne Police detectives need help to locate Dustin Ray Magnon, who is a suspect in a shooting that occurred during a dice game on March 25 in the 400 block of North Bradford Street. Magnon, 23, is described as black male, 5’5” in height and weighing 137 pounds.

12-year-old killed in tractor wreck in St. Landry Parish

A two-vehicle crash on La. 178 near Edwin Street in St. Landry Parish claimed the life of 12-year-old Harley Lacomb of Arnaudville at about noon Tuesday.

As Louisiana's Corona virus numbers had seemed to be leveling, suddenly the state Tuesday posted the largest one-day spike in deaths, an additional 129, breaking above 1,000 in Louisiana's COVID-19 fatalities at 1,013.

Gov. John Bel Edwards said Monday he will grant the state school board’s request to close school buildings for the rest of the school year.

Governor issues statement as COVID-19 death passes 1,000 in Louisiana

Gov. John Bel Edwards issued a statement as Louisiana’s death toll from COVID-19 surpassed 1,000 on Tuesday. At the state’s noon update, the Louisiana Department of Health reported 129 additional deaths, bringing the death total to 1,013.
