Legendary guitarist, Eunice native Gerry McGee dies while on tour

Legendary guitarist and Eunice native Gerry McGee died while on a solo tour of Japan on Oct. 12. McGee was the son of Dennis McGee, one of Cajun music’s great fiddler players. McGee was on stage in Tokyo on Oct. 8 when he fell ill. McGee was 82. The death was reported on The Ventures website.

Alligator found in Eunice

Eunice Police picked up an alligator on the Frey’s Laundry loading dock early Wednesday morning. The alligator garnered quite a bit of attention when brought to the police station. The gator is shown on the floor and held by an officer before being released at an undisclosed location.

2 arrested in vehicle thefts

Eunice Police had arrest warrants on two people in connection with the theft of pickup trucks from a yard in the 400 block of Ulysse Street on Oct. 8. Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot said three vehicles were reported stolen on Monday.

Prairie Acadian Cultural Center reopened Wednesday

The air conditioning issues that forced the closure of the Prairie Acadian Cultural Center are resolved, and the center re-opened Wednesday. The center will present a new schedule of programs on Saturdays, including the live Cajun and zydeco music show Rendez-vous des Cajuns.

Port Barre man pleads guilty to sex crime

LAFAYETTE – Cory Shane Disotell, 48, of Port Barre, appeared before U.S. District Judge Robert R. Summerhays and pled guilty to transportation of a minor with the intent to engage in criminal sexual activity.
