The following are arrests reported by the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office. August 22 Kevin Lee Melancon, 48, 700 block of Main Street, Cankton. Bench warrant. Arrested by Cankton Police. Alvin Francis Bergeron III, 29, 600 block of Fontenot Road, Opelousas. Hold for Lafayette Parish.

Clarence "Freddie" Mose

Clarence “Freddie” Mose, age 87, of Albia, Iowa, formerly of Louisiana and California, passed away on Tuesday, August 20, 2019, at the Monroe County Hospital in Albia. Freddie was born on July 5, 1932, in Eunice, Louisiana, to Edwin and Rose (Johnson) Mose. He grew up and attended school in Eunice.

Donivan C. Frey

Funeral Services were held on Wednesday, August 21, 2019, at 11:00 am at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette for Donivan C. Frey, 87, who passed away Saturday, August 17th at Cornerstone Village South in Lafayette.

Mt. Olive Cemetery volunteers needed Families of the Mount Olive Cemetery, located at 1199 E. Ardoin (on Old Crowley Road), are in dire need of volunteers for lawn maintenance, grass mowing, and up keep of the cemetery. It is a public cemetery, established many years ago.

William "Tee" Mitchell Deason

William “Tee” Mitchell Deason passed away on Wednesday, August 21, 2019 at the age of 68. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, August 23, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Quirk and Son Funeral Home in Basile. Father Kennon Brown will officiate. Burial will follow at St.Paul Cemetery in Elton, La.

Police: Domestic call escalated

News reports over the weekend were that Eunice Police were pursuing a man with a gun. But Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot said when the suspect was caught after a chase that began Saturday and ended Monday, no gun was found.
