Audit questions Ville Platte mayor, aldermen pay

Ville Platte Mayor Jennifer Vidrine and the city’s aldermen enjoyed tens of thousands of dollars of possibly illegal excess compensation over a one-year period ending in June 2018, according to a Louisiana Legislative Auditor investigative report released on Monday.

City’s 125th year celebration set in September and a big prize is planned

The city’s celebration of its 125th year is planned for Sept. 14 beginning with a parade at 10 a.m. and a chance for a prize of $12,500 at a game to follow. Alderwoman Connie Thibodeaux announced a few details about the celebration at Tuesday’s Board of Aldermen meeting.

Mayor thanks volunteers for cleanup

Volunteers from New Hope Fellowship were honored by Mayor Scott Fontenot at Tuesday’s Board of Aldermen meeting. Fontenot said the church volunteers were everywhere as they did a day of community service.

Sorenson named LSUE chancellor

Nancee Sorenson has been selected as the next chancellor of LSU Eunice, LSU President F. King Alexander announced. Sorenson is the president at Hillsborough Community College, Brandon Campus. “We are pleased to welcome Dr. Nancee Sorenson to LSU Eunice and the LSU leadership team,” Alexander said.

John "Johnnie" Wayne Miller

John Wayne “Johnnie” Miller passed away on Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at the age of 81. Johnnie died unexpectedly, but peacefully, surrounded by his wife, children and grandchildren. Johnnie was a loyal employee for Transco throughout his entire career.
