Statewide flu vaccination clinics scheduled today

The Louisiana Department of Health will be holding a special one-day flu vaccination promotion from 2 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. today at various parish health units around the state. These vaccinations are available at no cost to the patient and allow people an easy way to get flu shots.

Tips sought in Acadia Parish burlgaries

Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives are investigating two residential burglaries which occurred on Dec. 3 that they believe to be related. One was in the 200 block of Don Drive in Western Acadia Parish and the other in the 2000 block of McMillan Avenue near Iota.

Female high school trainer charged with having sex with student

A 28-year-old Crowley woman working as a high school athletic trainer has been arrested and charged with having sex with a student. Opelousas police reported to the news media that Loralyn Huval has been arrested and charged with felony prohibited sexual conduct between an educator and student.

St. Landry Parish man charged with abusing animals

A Port Barre man has been charged with the three counts of aggravated cruelty to animals after St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s detectives assisted animal control in reference to a loose horse on Dec. 6, according to Sheriff Bobby Guidroz.

After brief flirtation, treasurer turns to re-election

Treasurer John Schroder turned the heads of donors, journalists and others recently when he said he would be open to running for governor next year. But the Republican spoke more definitively on the issue recently and he will be seeking re-election in 2019.

Downtown mural completed

The mural at Walnut and 2nd streets is complete, but the fun has probably just begun as viewers judge what’s there. Artist Hannah Gumbo completed the mural in November and plans an official presentation from 1 to 1:30 p.m. Friday.

City audit finds no deficit, cash on hand

The short take on the Eunice city fiscal status is the balanced sheet is not in a deficit and there was a $415,000 cash gain, according to accountant Shirley Vige at Tuesday’s Board meeting.

Waynon Thibodeaux

With much sorrow, the family announces the passing of Waynon Thibodeaux in his 71st year with family by his side at the Louisiana Extended Care in Lafayette. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 pm on Thursday, December 13, 2018, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Eunice.
