St. Thomas More Fall Fest dates set The St. Thomas More Church’s Fall Festival will be held Sept. 28 from 6 until 10 p.m., from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. on Sept. 29, and Sept. 30 from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. The fair armbands are $20 each for one 4-hour period. Weekend armbands are $40.

Free workshops set for small business owners

The Sustainable Agricultural Rural Development Institute (SARDI) has partnered with the USDA and the Acadiana chapter of SCORE to hold two events for rural business owners in the Acadiana area. The free learning sessions will be held on Sept. 25 at SARDI’s office, 1209 Diesi St., in Opelousas.

Food safety meetings scheduled

The Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry will hold four outreach meetings around the state to update produce industry stakeholders on the implementation of the new Produce Safety Rule from the FDA Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA).

Acadia Parish property tax assessments up about $4M

Property assessments are up almost $4 million from last year, parish Assessor James “Jimbo” Petitjean told the Acadia Parish Police Jury. After three consecutive years of decline, assessments are up to $384,759,698 for 2018, compared to $380,822,348 last year, Petitjean said at the Sept. 11 meeting.

Voter registration deadlines near

The last day to register to vote in person/by mail for the Nov. 6 will be at 4:40 p.m. Oct. 9, Cheryl Milburn, registrar of voters of St. Landry Parish, has announced. Registration online at Geaux Vote.Com is available through Oct. 16.

Sewer line washout

A portion of the parking lot at the Amy Shopping Center washed out due to a sewer line collapse on Tuesday. Eunice Mayor Scott Fontenot said the city will repair the sewer line, but is still looking into who is responsible for the pavement.
