Lafleur sentenced to life for 2 killings

Phillip Lafleur was sentenced to life in prison for the killing of Akeem Adiddias Ceasar in Eunice and 40 years in a manslaughter plea involving the death of his great uncle Dale Lafleur.

City leaders air budget frustrations

After Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot aired his department’s problem hiring and retaining employees, the mayor and aldermen joined in expressing their frustration with the city’s budget. “We had another one resign today,” the police chief said. “Currently, I’m seven employees short.

Railroad crossing patrol planned today

Beginning at 7:30 a.m. today, Union Pacific railroad crossings in Eunice will be under intense scrutiny, Police Chief Randy Fontenot said. There will be an officer at each intersection and a locomotive will be pass back and forth through the city to trigger safety lights.

Early voting draws 941 votes for Saturday’s election

Saturday’s election, which is topped by a race for state treasurer, drew 941 early votes in St. Landry Parish, according to the state secretary of state website. There were 108 early votes cast in Eunice for this Saturday’s general election, Cheryl Milburn, parish registrar of voters, said.
