Opelousas man killed in 2 a.m. wreck

Shortly after 2 a.m. Thursday, Louisiana State Police Troop I troopers responded to a single-vehicle fatality crash on U.S. 167 near Redwood Road north of Abbeville, which claimed the life of 53-year-old Joseph L. Redmond of Opelousas.

Children’s choir rehearsals set The Eunice Community Children’s Choir will have rehearsals for the 2017 Summer concert at 6 p.m. June 30 and July 2 at the First Baptist Church, Eunice.

New terminal building at the Eunice airport

Construction was continuing at the new terminal for the Eunice airport. The contracted completion date for the 1,200-square-foot building is July 15, according to Drew Miller, airport manager.

House speaker defended

Former House Speaker Chuck Kleckley, now a government affairs advisor at Adams & Reese in Baton Rouge, said last week that he thought his successor in the Legislature’s lower chamber is “doing a good job.
