Tropical storm approaching; heavy rains forecast

The National Weather Service in Lake Charles reports Tropical Storm Cindy has sustained winds of 60 mph as it moves northwest across the Gulf of Mexico. Landfall projections bring it to the Texas-Louisiana state line by early Thursday morning, but we will see impacts before then.

Sandbags available in Eunice, Yambilee in Opelousas

Sandbags are available starting at noon Tuesday at the Northwest Community Center Pavilion in Eunice and at the Yambilee in Opelousas until 8 p.m. The pavilion is at 651 Samuel Dr., Eunice. The Yambilee is at 1939 West Landry St., Opelousas.

St. Landry Parish Sheriff Office reports arrests

The following are arrests reported by the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office. June 19 William Wade Williamson, 24, 200 block of Bosco Hwy., Church Point. Domestic abuse battery. Simar K. Bennett, 65, 300 block of Joli Rd., Carencro. Carnal knowledge of a juvenile. Arrested by Leonville Police Dept.

One Acadiana annual report gains national recognition

One Acadiana (1A) received an award of Communication Excellence from the Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives (ACCE), a national organization whose mission is to support and develop chamber professionals to lead business and their communities.

Doris Arnaud passed away on Friday, June 16, 2017, at the age of 85. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, June 19, 2017, at 10:00 AM at Quirk & Son Funeral Home in Eunice. Deacon Gary Gaudin will officiate. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Eunice.

Linda Frey Campbell

Linda Frey Campbell passed away on Thursday, June 15, 2017, at the age of 74. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, June 19, 2017, at 1:00 PM at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Mowata. Father Joseph Tran will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Lawrence Cemetery.
