Michael Lloyd Eastin Sr.

Michael Lloyd Eastin Sr. passed away on Tuesday, June 13, 2017, at the age of 72. No Memorial Services have been scheduled at this time. He is survived by his wife, Judy G. Eastin, three sons; Michael L. Eastin Jr. of Lafayette, La., Andre' Eastin of Youngsville, La.

The following are arrests reported by the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office. June 12 Willie Joseph Journet Jr., 29, 500 block of North Market Street, Opelousas. Two counts of domestic abuse battery; simple criminal damage; six counts of resisting an officer; three counts of criminal trespass.

The following is an arrest by Eunice Police. June 12 Clayton Johnson, 31, 700 block of Lewis Street, Eunice. Aggravated battery.

June was money month for loggers

In days gone by, the Calcasieu River was jammed from top to bottom with pine logs in the early days of June. This was the high-water month, when logs could easily be floated to nearly a dozen lumber mills that ringed Lake Charles.

Clearing pipes

Drain pipes were surveyed by a camera and cleared over six days in Eunice. Eunice Mayor Scott Fontenot said it cost about $2,500 a day for the operation, which is to continue to alleviate flooding.
