Sales tax revenue up from 2016 levels

Sales tax collections in Eunice and St. Landry Parish tumbled from April to May, but are up from May 2016, according to statistics from the St. Landry Parish School Board Sales Tax Division. Eunice sales tax revenue in May was $411,583, down from $503,493 in April — a 18 percent decrease.

5 teens accused of stealing pickup, driving it 400 miles

Five teens are accused of stealing a Ford F-150 pickup from a residence in the 100 block of Tanglewood and, after putting about 400 miles on it, driving it into a ditch in the 1400 block of Williams on Monday.

SLEMCO names meeting winners

Gavin Dupre Memorial Benefit is Sunday

A benefit is planned June 11 for the family of Gavin Dupre, 12, who died May 8 of accidental gun shot. The benefit is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Northwest Community Center Pavilion, 651 Samuel Drive, Eunice.

Fighting terrorism: Hodges v. Norton

The House passed a bill, 82-8, Monday that works to prevent the state of Louisiana from funding terrorism, but not before two legislators got into an oral dustup which prompted a reprimand by the speaker of the House.

Acadia School Board OKs election returns, millage

By roll call vote, the results from the April 29 election and the 2017 millage rates were adopted by the Acadia Parish School Board unanimously. The board canvassed the results that saw School District 7’s millage renewal and two parishwide millage continuations all pass.

3 wounded in 2 shootings

A 17-year-old Eunice man has been arrested on five counts of attempted first-degree murder in connection with two shootings that left two men and a 7-year-old boy wounded. Arrested was Jamie Ned, also known as Jamie Freeman, of North Cane Street, Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot said.
