St. Landry Parish schools get a C in state assessment

The St. Landry Parish School District received a C in school performance scores released by the state Department of Education. The district’s score edged up two points to 73.1 from its 2015 score, but that lagged behind neighboring parishes. Acadia and Evangeline parishes received Bs.

The following are arrests by Eunice Police. Nov. 17 Ronald W. Marcantel, 56, 500 block of Crochet Road, Iota. DWI, careless operation, turning signal required and drive must secure license. Lillie Mae Simon, 25, 800 block of South Bulah Street, Eunice.

Super moon

On Monday the moon was at its closest to Earth since Jan. 26, 1948. The next close pass, a super moon, will be Nov. 25, 2034. The photos were taken on Tuesday, however the moon was spectacular even then.  

Supt. eyes strategic plan, Super board retreat

New Superintendent Patrick Jenkins put a day long retreat for the St. Landry Parish School Board and development of a strategic plan on the board’s radar at a committee meeting Monday.   “This board retreat could be the tip of the iceberg meaning it starts the initial conversation.

Success against truancy

A focus on reducing truancy at Eunice’s public schools is proving successful.   Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot said, “Truancy reports have gone down quite a bit in the last month.

Host a turkey-free Thanksgiving
