Alderwoman seeks speed hump policy

Eunice Alderwoman Germaine Simpson is seeking a city policy on speed humps. At Tuesday’s Board of Aldermen meeting, Simpson said the city does not have a policy on the speed humps, also called bumps, that are supposed to slow traffic.

Bellard brings annual State of the Parish program to Eunice

St. Landry Parish President Jessie Bellard brought his annual State of the Parish program to the Eunice High School auditorium on Monday. Bellard started the program after he became president in 2020 and in about an hour goes through parish government’s activities highlighted in a booklet.

Unrestrained driver killed in 2-vehicle Acadia Parish crash

On Feb. 9, shortly after midnight, Louisiana State Police Troop I began investigating a two-vehicle fatality crash on Interstate 10 West near Trumps Road. The crash claimed the life of 58-year-old Luvenson Sowell of Baton Rouge.

Morse woman killed in Acadia Parish crash

A two-vehicle fatality crash on La. 92 (West Whitney Street) near Everglade Road in Acadia Parish claimed the life of 50-year-old Cora Barrios of Morse, according to a Louisiana State Police Troop I news release. Police responded to the wreck shortly after 4 p.m. Monday.

School Board to decide on $2.5M savings plan

A $2.5 million savings plan is the sole item on a special meeting of the St. Landry Parish School Board at 5 p.m. Thursday. The meeting follows a School Board retreat on Saturday in Opelousas where Superintendent Milton Batiste III unveiled the plan.
