St. Landry Parish Sheriff arrests

The following are arrests reported by the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Wednesday, Oct. 2 Nicklous Ryan Thomas, 37, 500 block of 6th Street, Eunice.

Tri-Parish jobless rates up, workforce down

The Tri-Parish workforce is down 130 people from a year ago in August and the jobless rate is up, according to the Louisiana Workforce Commission. The workforce totaled 67,882 in August, down 130 or 0.2% from August 2023. The August workforce counts by parish were: St. Landry, 31,815, down 142 or 0.

Sting nabs corrections officer for contraband smuggling

A sting at the St, Landry Parish Jail resulted in a corrections officer being charged in connection with smuggling contraband into the jail, according to Sheriff Bobby Guidroz on Monday.

James "Butch" H. Shelton, III

James H. Shelton III, affectionately known as “Butch,” passed away on September 22, 2024, at the age of 64. He was born on May 20, 1960, in McAlester, OK, to Betty Lou (Dunn) and James H. Shelton, Jr.

The following are arrests reported by the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Tuesday, Oct. 1 Carolyn Thomas, 54, 500 block of North Oak Street, Opelousas. Theft. Arrested by St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Cheryl Ann Vizena, (Cherie to those who loved her) a devout Catholic and loving mother, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at the age of 73, surrounded by her loving family.

Dr. “Randy” Randall A. Bergeron

Dr. “Randy” Randall A. Bergeron passed away on Sunday, September 29, 2024 at the age of 70. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 5, 2024 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church with Father Mike Sucharski Celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery.
