Stage set for 86th Rice Festival

Louisiana’s oldest and largest agricultural festival kicks off Thursday night with two stages of music and a full slate of activities planned for the weekend. Entertainment from the Supreme Rice Sound Stage, located on the courthouse grounds, begins at 6 p.m. with TJ Gautreaux and Louisiana Soul.

Motorcyclist dies in single-vehicle crash in Evangeline Parish

A single-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle on La. 104 west of Lanse De Deshotel Road took the life of 64-year-old Russell John Armond Sr. of Mamou, according to a Louisiana State Police Troop I news release. State Police were notfied of the crash at 11:45 p.m. Tuesday.

Opelousas man sentenced to life in prison for raping child

An Opelousas man convicted of first-degree rape was sentenced on Wednesday to life in prison, according to St. Landry Parish District Attorney Chad Pitre. Lee R. Jackson, 55, was convicted by a unanimous jury on Sept. 28 for the rape of child under 13 years old.
