Almost 2,500 voted early here

At the end of Tuesday, 2,486 votes had been cast for the Oct. 14 election in St. Landry Parish, according to the Louisiana Secretary of State’s website, geauxvote.com. Early voting for the Oct. 14 election will continue from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Worker rescued from auger

An employee male subject was trapped in an auger at Tri-Parish Rice Drier, located on Bacciochi Street, at about noon Friday. Eunice firefighters responded to the scene, along with St. Landry Parish Sheriff deputies and St. Landry EMS.

Louisiana Agriculture Hall of Distinction accepting nominations

The Louisiana Agriculture Hall of Distinction is now accepting nominations for its annual induction ceremony, which will be held March 7 in Baton Rouge. The nomination form can be obtained online at www.louisianaagriculturehallofdistinction.com or through any parish LSU AgCenter office.

Parish to conduct 2nd cleanup on Saturday

St. Landry Parish Government plans a second Community Clean Up Day in Eunice from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at Maple Avenue and Jelks Street. There will be dumpsters on-site, offering a solution for waste disposal.

St. Thomas More Catholic Church Bazaar is Saturday, Sunday

The St. Thomas More Catholic Church Bazaar is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. There will be games and entertainment for the entire family, plus bazaar foods.

Brandon Ledet returns to Zydeco Capital Jam

Zydeco and Creole accordionist Brandon Ledet leads the Zydeco Capital Jam from 1 to 3 p.m. Oct. 14 at the St. Landry Parish Visitor Center, I-49 exit 23, just north of Opelousas. The jam, open to all musicians and fans, celebrates zydeco music in its cradle – St. Landry Parish.

Germanfest to highlight Heinen family

Come celebrate German-style at the 2023 Roberts Cove Germanfest Saturday and Sunday on the grounds of St. Leo IV Catholic Church in Roberts Cove, located off Interstate 10 Exit 87 (Rayne Exit) in Acadia Parish. The festival is scheduled 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Unopposed Bellard is a top campaign fundraiser, spender

St. Landry Parish President Jessie Bellard emerged unopposed for the Oct. 14 election, but his report indicates he was ready for a challenger with total receipts of $68,729.21 — all contributions. Bellard reported expenditures of $53,397.81.
