Voting resumes Monday

Early voting for the Oct. 14 election will continue from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday at the Eunice City Hall and Registrar of Voter’s Office in the courthouse in Opelousas. The deadline for anyone to request an absentee-by-mail ballot is Oct. 10, other than military or overseas.

School Board approves state-funded stipend

The St. Landry Parish School Board approved state-funded stipends of $2,000 to certified staff and $1,000 to support staff this fall. The Board voted for the stipends at a special meeting on Sept. 21 Long-term substitutes are to receive $1,000 stipends.

Parish finances boosted with federal money

The Landry Parish Government finances were boosted in 2022 by an infusion of federal dollars, according to Steve Moosa, CPA, of Darnall Sikes & Frederick, who delivered an audit report the Parish Council’s Sept. 20 meeting.

Fatalities decreased on Louisiana roads in 2022

The number of people who died on Louisiana roads dropped by 6.8% in 2022, the result of fewer interstate and drunk-driving fatalities, the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission announced Wednesday.

St. Thomas More Bazaar set Oct. 7, 8

The St. Thomas More Catholic Church Bazaar is scheduled for Oct. 7 and 8. The Saturday hours are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday the bazaar will open at 11 a.m. and close at 4 p.m. There will be games and entertainment for the entire family, plus bazaar foods.
