Gambling is everywhere in Louisiana. Presently, the state has 15 so-called “floating” casinos, a huge land-based casino in downtown New Orleans, four racetrack casinos, 200 truck stop casinos and over 1,000 restaurants and bars that have video poker machines. Wow!

Public hearing set on city pay raises

A public hearing is scheduled at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday before the Eunice Board of Aldermen meeting to hear comments on pay raises for elected officials. The pay raise ordinance was introduced at November’s Board meeting.

Solar farm planned in parish

A meeting to provide information about proposed solar farm north of Leonville is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Yambilee Building, 1939 W. Landry St., Opelousas.

Free LSUE Ag program offers career paths

A new LSUE program, Sustaining Future Farmers in Louisiana, offers a free path to multiple careers. Not only is the program free, participants who complete the six-month course will be awarded a $1,000 scholarship to LSUE’s new associate of science in agriculture degree program.
