Police officer’s gun stolen

An Opelousas man was arrested for stealing a police officer’s 9mm Glock 19 service pistol from a police unit. Arrested was Braylon Jones, 18, of the 900 block of La. 749. He is charged with simple burglary. His bail was set at $5,000. Patrol deputies responded to the report on Nov. 24. On Nov.

The Louisiana Department of Education released its Fall 2022 Reading Report Thursday that shows how public school students in grades K-3 scored on a literacy screener given during the first 30 days of the current school year.
LSU Eunice student Jacie Bernard recently completed an internship program with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF), it was announced last week. Bernard received a certificate of completion by the LDWF. The Washington native and LSUE Criminal Justice major, was one of students statewide to complete the internship this fall. Fan favorite Geno Delafose returns to the monthly Zydeco Capital Jam from 1 to 3 p.m. Dec. 10 at the St. Landry Parish Visitor Center, I-49 exit 23, in Opelousas. Delafose plays the jam for the first time since January 2020.

KINDER — Famed golf champion Tiger Woods attended the the third annual Notah Begay III Junior Golf National Championship at Koasati Pines at Coushatta Casino Resort. The event featured the nation’s best junior golfers competing for the top honors in their respective class.

Jobless rates tumble, workforce increases

Tri-Parish unemployment rates tumbled in October and the workforce rose to 68,181, according to data released by the Louisiana Workforce Commission on Wednesday. Louisiana’s not seasonally adjusted unemployment rate is again at a record low. The October not seasonally adjusted rate is 3.1%, 0.

Patrick Jenkins, superintendent of St. Landry Parish School District (SLPSD), has been named the 2023 Louisiana Superintendent of the Year by the Louisiana Association of School Superintendents. The program is designed to recognize the outstanding leadership of active, front-line superintendents.
