Police officer’s gun stolen

An Opelousas man was arrested for stealing a police officer’s 9mm Glock 19 service pistol from a police unit. Arrested was Braylon Jones, 18, of the 900 block of La. 749. He is charged with simple burglary. His bail was set at $5,000. Patrol deputies responded to the report on Nov. 24. On Nov.

Louisiana shows improvement on Fall Reading Report

The Louisiana Department of Education released its Fall 2022 Reading Report Thursday that shows how public school students in grades K-3 scored on a literacy screener given during the first 30 days of the current school year.

Geno Delafose returns to the Zydeco Capital Jam

Fan favorite Geno Delafose returns to the monthly Zydeco Capital Jam from 1 to 3 p.m. Dec. 10 at the St. Landry Parish Visitor Center, I-49 exit 23, in Opelousas. Delafose plays the jam for the first time since January 2020.

KINDER — Famed golf champion Tiger Woods attended the the third annual Notah Begay III Junior Golf National Championship at Koasati Pines at Coushatta Casino Resort. The event featured the nation’s best junior golfers competing for the top honors in their respective class.

Jobless rates tumble, workforce increases
