The death of Dr. Russell Pavich, St. Landry Parish coroner, is being reported by Quirk & Son Funeral Home, of Eunice. Pavich died Friday. According to the funeral home, the following services have been scheduled: Visitation, from 4 to 9 p.m. June 14 at Quirk & Son Funeral Home - Eunice, 121 S.

Church Point man dies in crash in St. Landry Parish

A two-vehicle crash on La. 35 near Mandy Road in St. Landry Parish. The crash claimed the life of 23-year-old Scotty J. Cormier, Jr. of Church Point at about 4:30 a.m. Saturday, according to a news release from Louisiana State Police Troop I.

Out of the shade and into the sun

When I think of color for shaded areas in the landscape, my thoughts immediately go to impatiens. Impatiens have been the go-to annual bedding plant for decades to provide bright, beautiful flowers in partial to heavily shaded areas of the landscape.

Film to feature UL Lafayette researcher’s oral history project with coastal residents

The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine has tapped the University of Louisiana at Lafayette’s Dr. Heather Stone for a role in its “In Times of Crisis: Stories from the Gulf of Mexico” film project.

June 1962 was the opening of Gurney Baseball Park. At last we had organized baseball, as we had played backyard, empty lot games with neighborhood kids. If our wooden bats broke or cracked we would nail, glue and tape them back together. So, here I was, a 9-year-old, red-hair and freckles.

Eunice shooting suspect identified

Eunice Police Department and St. Landry Crime Stoppers need help in locating a suspect wanted for the shooting of a 14-year-old victim in the city of Eunice. On May 4, just after 10 p.m., Eunice Police responded to a call of someone being shot in the 200 block of Acadia Street.
