Hammerhead worms on the rise in Louisiana

An invasive, wriggling creature with a head that resembles a hammer has been showing up lately in some south Louisiana lawns.
They’re called hammerhead worms. LSU AgCenter entomologist Nathan Lord said it is believed they were imported from Southeast Asia in the soil of ornamental plants.

Statue to honor Saint Landry

Bruce Gaudin with the Opelousas Rotary Club informed the Eunice Rotarians Wednesday about an upcoming Centennial Celebration and Dedication of the statue of St. Landry.
The dedication ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. on May 24 at the St. Landry Parish Courthouse Square in Opelousas.

The 70th annual observance of the National Day of Prayer was held at 10 a.m. Thursday on the City Hall’s parking lot near the pavilion. Eunice Police identify shooting suspect

Eunice Police are looking for Xavier Berrnard Watson, 31, as a suspect in a shooting that occurred on Wednesday, according Police Chief Randy Fontenot.
Police responded to a call about someone being shot in the 200 block of Acadia Street at about 10 p.m. Wednesday.
