Sheirff urges public to avoid gatherings

(Acadia Parish Sheriff K.P. Gibson released the following letter to citizens) Since this pandemic began, we have been working together with officials from our parish, state and national government. Over the past several weeks we have seen a continual climb in the number of cases within our region.

Iota man arrested in Eunice's woman fatal shooting

An arrest has been made in the fatal shooting of a Eunice woman on Thursday. Acadia Parish Sheriff K.P. Gibson said the body of Catherine Miller, 30, was discovered Thursday at a residence in the 900 block of Ye Ole Country Road just west of Iota.

Troopers urge heightened online awareness during COVID-19

The coronavirus pandemic has led to school closures throughout the state. Consequently, there has been a substantial increase in the amount of time children are spending online. The increased unfettered access has led to amplified opportunities for online child predators.

Armed robbery at Valero

Crowley Police detectives are investigating an armed robbery which occurred at the Valero, located at 1764 N. Parkerson Ave., at about 6:30 p.m. March 27. Upon entering the business the suspect brandished a firearm and demanded money from the cashier.

Woman’s body found outside Iota

Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office dputies were dispatched to the 900 block of Ye Ole Country Road just outside of Iota at 7:28 p.m. Thursday. Deputies found a white female outside of the residence and determined she was deceased, according to a news release from Sheriff K.P. Gibson.

No problem with curfew, chief says

The 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. St. Landry Parish curfew is not causing any issues, according to Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot. “There are still people moving about, but we can’t stop everybody,” he said. The curfew does allow people to travel through the city and people going to work.
