Tips sought about trailer, wire theft

The Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating the felony theft of a cargo utility trailer and 1,200 pounds of copper wire from Entergy, located at 1134 Osage Trail in northeast Acadia Parish that occurred on Jan. 20.

Port Barre man sentenced for child porn possession

A Port Barre man was sentenced to 24 months in prison for possessing child pornography on his computer and an external hard drive, a news release from U.S. Attorney David Joseph stated. John G. Bertrand, 35, of Port Barre, was sentenced on Jan. 2 by U.S. District Judge Dee. D.

Illegal alien pleads guilty to illegally re-entering U.S.

U.S. Attorney David C. Joseph announced that an illegal alien from Mexico arrested in Acadia Parish pleaded guilty Tuesday to illegally re-entering the country. Jose Melchor-Martinez, 49, of Mexico, pleaded guilty before U.S. Magistrate Judge Carol B.

P.D. forced to shoot cow loose near I-10

A cow that had apparently escaped from a trailer on Interstate 10 was shot by Crowley Police Officers as it made its way toward U.S. Highway 90 recently. According to Police Chief Jimmy Broussard, on Saturday, Jan. 12, at about 7 a.m.
