BASILE – A combination of a time consuming ground game and a suffocating defensive effort gave the Basile Bearcats a huge 14-0 win over the Oberlin Tigers here Friday night in a key district match-up for both squads.

VILLE PLATTE -- For the second week in a row the Sacred Heart Trojans took care of business and blasted past their opponent, as they took a 47-14 win over district opponent Slaughter Charter. With the win, Sacred Heart improved to 6-2 on the year and 3-2 in league play.

Deer season underway and outlook similar to 2016

Deer season in much of St. Mary Parish has been open since Oct. 1, when archers took to the woods. Last Saturday, the Area 7 primitive weapon deer season got underway. But, the big show starts Saturday when the firearms (still-hunt) only season begins.

Jays surge past Hornets, 29-7

Grand Lake scored first, but the Blue Jays scored 29 unanswered points as St. Edmund earned a 29-7 homecoming win over the Hornets. With the victory, the Blue Jays improved to 7-1 overall, 5-0 in District 4-1A. Grand Lake falls to 1-6 overall and 0-5 in district play.

Bobcats crush Demons, 53-8

MAMOU – The Eunice High Bobcats evened their overall record to 4-4 Friday night with a 53-8 victory over the Mamou High Green Demons in District 5-3A action.
