Election Day will be a holiday at LSUE

LSU Eunice’s Student Government Association (SGA) approved a resolution to make Election Day, Nov. 3, a holiday on the Academic Calendar. LSUE Chancellor Dr. Nancee Sorenson ratified the resolution and it passed in the last Faculty Senate meeting.

Early voting begins with strong turnout

Lines formed for early voting in Eunice and Opelousas on Friday. The Eunice poll at City Hall had a steady line of voters through the morning. In Opelousas, a line formed at the courthouse door before the poll opened at 8 a.m. Voter interest in the Nov.

3K-plus request absentee ballots in St. Landry

More than 3,000 voters had requested absentee ballots in St. Landry as of last Friday and the count was rising, according to Cheryl Miburn, registrar of voters. The 3,000-plus requests compares to a total of about 2,000 four years ago, she said.

Change voting age to 16? Try 80!

San Francisco residents will vote on a measure in November to allow teenagers as young as 16 to vote in local elections. That’s according to The Hill, which also reports that in recent years, two women in Congress introduced measures to lower the voting age nationwide to 16.

Registrar of voters issues reminder of key voter dates

The last day to register to vote by mail/in person for the Nov. 3 election is 4:30 p.m. Oct. 5. Cheryl Milburn, registrar of voters of St. Landry Parish, released a reminder of key election dates for voters. The online deadline to register for the Nov. 3 election is Oct. 13.

Darbonne announces candidacy for re-election as city marshal

Eunice City Marshal Terry J. Darbonne is a candidate for re-election in the Nov. 3 primary. A Eunice native and 1982 graduate of Eunice High School, Darbonne is the son of the late Howard and Agnes (Guidry) Darbonne. He has two children, Nicholas and Amber Darbonne.
