At the end of qualifying Friday, a three-way race for Eunice city marshal developed. Incumbent marshal Terry Darbonne is being challenged by Marcus Bergeron and Gerald Watley. The deadline to register to vote in person or by mail is Oct. 5.

Qualifying begins with local races taking shape

OPELOUSAS — Candidates at qualifying that began Wednesday seemed to be obeying the mandate to wear masks. Masks are requested of those entering the Delta Grand building on Market Street in Opelousas where qualifying for the Nov. 3 election began.

Virus didn’t affect early voting

There were 830 early votes cast in St. Landry Parish when it ended on Saturday. That compares to 1,101 votes cast in the 2016 presidential primary. Cheryl Milburn, parish registrar of voters, thought the turnout was good and didn’t believe the virus situation kept voters away.

Three days left for early voting

St. Landry Parish voters have three more days of early voting, which ends Saturday. At the end of voting Tuesday, 1,675 votes had been cast in St. Landry Parish. Of those votes, 483 were in person and 1,192 were absentee, according to the Secretary of State’s website.

St. Landry Parish voters have six more days of early voting, which ends July 4. At the end of voting Thursday, 1,302 votes had been cast in St. Landry Parish. Of those votes, 277 were in person and 1,025 were absentee, according to the Secretary of State’s website.

Early voting continues at Eunice City Hall poll through July 4

St. Landry Parish voters can cast vote at the Eunice City Hall poll through July 4. As of noon Tuesday, 44 votes had been cast at the Eunice site. There were 1,098 total votes in St. Landry Parish at the end of Tuesday’s voting, according to the Secretary of State’s website.

Early voting begins Saturday

Early voting for the July 11 election begins Saturday in Eunice and Opelousas. Cheryl Milburn, St. Landry Parish registrar of voters, also said Saturday is the last day to register to vote online for the election at geauxvote.com. The Presidential Preference Primary is on the ballot.

The last day to register to vote by mail or in person is June 10 for the primary election July 11, according to Cheryl Milburn, St. Landry Parish registrar of voters. Persons interested in participating in the upcoming election must make any changes to their record by this deadline.
