Iota, Church Point to battle in key 5-3A tilt

Both the Iota Bulldogs and the Church Point Bears are coming off of big wins in which a star running back and a staunch defensive effort have carried them to victory. However, this week they face each other. If the Bears win, they will undoubtedly have the inside track to the title.

Blue Jays to face No. 8 Tigers

Bobcats, Panthers clash

It seems like every week this season the Bobcats have to face a premier running attack. Jennings (263), Rayne (349), Crowley (234) and Church Point (244) all rolled up big yards on the ground against the Bobcats.

North Vermilion falls to Patterson

PATTERSON - The North Vermilion Patriots were three minutes away from upsetting the Patterson Lumberjacks. NV was leading 21-20 with 3:30 to play, but the lead was short. After Patterson cut the lead to one point, the Lumberjacks did a successful on-side kick.

Gueydan hangs on to beat Centerville

On Thursday, the Gueydan Bears hung on to beat the Centerville Tigers, 42-33, in district action. Centerville scored 12 points in the final seven minutes to make it a game. The two teams combined or 731 yards rushing. Gueydan had 383 yards and Centerville had 348 yards.

E.D. White too much for VC

First-year Vermilion Catholic coach Brady Thomas had a date to fill on his 2017 schedule when he took over the Screaming Eagles’ reins. His choice of Class 4A member E.D. White shows how strongly Thomas wants his team to be able to compete, a matchup that could pay dividends down the road.

LAKE ARTHUR – The Ville Platte Bulldogs made the trip down to Lake Arthur Thursday night to tangle with the Tigers in hopes of extending their win streak to three in a row and picking a district win. With both teams ready for battle, the game became a nail bitter until the final horn blew.

Sacred Heart cannot sustain momentum; loses two in a row

OPELOUSAS -- What looked to be a classic finish to an ever important game in the race for the District 5-1A title, turned into a runaway contest as the Opelousas Catholic Vikings scored 21 points in the second half on their way to a 35-7 win over the Sacred Heart Trojans here Friday night.

Panthers pounce

MAMOU – Like a big jungle cat, the Pine Prairie Panthers pounced on three early Mamou Demon miscues and converted them into points, as they rolled to a 42-8 District 5-3A win here Thursday night.
