Few people have had as much success in both the coaching and playing ranks as Eunice High School Athletic Hall of Famer Earl Kelly. As a player, Kelly stands as one of the biggest impact players on both sides of the football that the school has ever seen.

There were valid reasons to question whether St. Ed’s would still be undefeated following last Friday’s marquee showdown with Opelousas Catholic. After all, OC has been consistently ranked among the top-ten teams in the LSWA Class 1A football pools for the past few seasons.

Bobcats enter district play looking for the big breaks

There’s nothing left to do for the Eunice Bobcats but turn the page. District play begins this week, and the Bobcats have it all in front of them. The first half of the season has been painful. The Bobcats sit at 0-5 and have, for the most part, been competitive throughout the season.

Not many players can distinguish themselves based off of pure impact at the college level like 2024 Eunice High School Athletic Hall of Fame inductee Steve Readeaux.

There were many notable athletes to come out of Eunice High’s famous “Rambo Squad” state semifinalist team in 1985. It’s a team noted for its vicious defense, which is still arguably the best in Eunice High School history.

Bobcats are on a tough learning curve at 0-4

The Eunice Bobcats are much closer to being a good football team than the one their 0-4 record indicates. It’s a team that has showed up to play week in and week out. Outside of Week 2’s 34-0 loss to the Jennings Bulldogs, each of Eunice’s losses have come by one touchdown.

Things have been rolling for St. Ed’s so far in 2024. The Blue Jays are 4-0 far this year, have scored over 200 points offensively and have given up less than 60 defensively. St. Ed’s key players have yet to be tested into the fourth quarter this season. It all looks tremendous on paper, and it is.
