Eunice resident to help administer parish government

St. Landry Parish President Jessie Bellard announced that Eunice resident Van Reed’s role in parish government has been expanded. The announcement came during Sen. Billy Cassidy’s visit to Eunice on Wednesday.

Parish Council deadlocks on officers

The St. Landry Parish Council deadlocked in voting for its chairman and vice chairman positions. With Council member Easton Shelvin absent, the Council found itself tied 6-6 in the votes for its leadership. The Council may vote again at a Jan. 31 meeting on the chairman and vice chairman positions.

Confederate monument may be coming down

Removal of the Confederate monument on the St. Landry Parish Courthouse grounds may start today. Parish President Jessie Bellard announced at Wednesday’s meeting that the process to remove the monument would begin. Bellard said it would take several days to disassemble the monument.

Eunice area products presented to Cassidy

After the serious stuff about federal funds and the future, Eunice Rotarian Pat Dossman presented Sen. Bill Cassidy with crawfish trap full of Eunice area products. The trap is Eunice-made and donated by Dana Duvall. “I’ve never gotten a crawfish trap.

Sen. Cassidy extols bipartisan infrastructure bill impact

U.S. Sen. Bill Cassidy came to town with a message about how the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act is impacting Louisiana. Cassidy stressed the legislation was a bipartisan effort. The infrastructure bill passed the Senate with 19 Republican votes.

March for Life walk set for Sunday The public is invited on Sunday for the annual Pro-Life Walk in Eunice. The walk will begin at noon at North 2nd near Picou’s Drug Store, and conclude at the City Hall parking lot, with a short program and speaker. A rosary will be prayed beginning at 11 a.m.

UL Lafayette is first university in the nation to join global French-speaking network

The University of Louisiana at Lafayette has joined the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie, making it the first member of the international network of French-speaking universities and research institutions in the United States. The Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie was founded in 1961.

Dr. Boustany Jr Memorial Nursing scholarship recipients named

LSU Eunice has continued its partnership with The Woman’s Foundation as five nursing students were awarded the Frem F. Boustany, Jr., MD Memorial Nursing Scholarship. The scholarship recipients were honored at a luncheon on the campus of LSU Eunice.

Eunice Manor’s top rank draws attention

Eunice Manor is ranked as one of the top five nursing homes in Louisiana and on Tuesday Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser stopped there to recognize the facility.
