Sales tax collections in St. Landry Parish began the year with a 5.3% increase in January compared to January 2022.
The January total for the parish was $8,977,428, up from January 2022’s $8,525,245, a $4452,183 increase. From December 2022, the total monthly increase was $2,189,883.

Grand Coteau audit finds some town officials, employees get a bye on paying utility bills

Some elected officials and Town employees of Grand Coteau did not pay their utility bills or made late payments without being cut-off or assessed a late fee, according to one of 11 audit findings for the Town of Grand Coteau.

LA Dept. of Veterans Affairs office in Eunice
The Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs has relocated its office in Eunice to the Northwest Community Center at 501 Samuel Drive.
The office is open every Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. except for State and Federal holidays.

What does take to pass something on the Parish Council?

The questions that arose recently at the St. Landry Parish Council seem like ones that should have been settled years ago.
But the Council may ask for a judicial ruling on how many votes it takes to pass something.
Is it a majority of members who are present?
Or, is it a majority of the membership?

Superintendent won’t seek contract renewal

St. Landry Parish School Superintendent Patrick Jenkins announced he will not seek a renewal of his contract at Thursday’s School Board meeting.
Jenkins, who was hired in 2016, cited numerous achievements during his tenure.

Parish budget fails to pass

A budget for 2023 for St. Landry Parish Government failed to pass at a special meeting Tuesday.
Six members voted for the budget and five against after nearly two hours of deliberations, mostly in public hearings.

Staff Report The Tri-Parish workforce rose 1.6% or 1,077 to 68,003 in December compared to December 2021 when the workforce totaled 66,926. The workforce includes those working and looking for a job.
