St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz offered the following Mardi Gras safety tips. Before going to the parade: — Secure your home by locking up and keeping a light on.

The Cajun Mardi Gras Festival in Eunice arrives big time on Friday when live entertainment launches on 2nd Street. Admission is free to the five-day event. There will be food trucks, and arts and crafts along South 2nd. The live entertainment will include: On Friday at 7 p.m.

Mardi Gras festivities cranking up

The Eunice Mardi Gras festivities may be bigger than ever in recent years as COVID fears are nearly over. “I believe we are going to have great crowds regardless of the weather, We’ve had people contact us from all over the country about making plans to come down,” said Eunice Mayor Scott Fontenot.

No quick fix for sewer problems

Putting a new wastewater treatment plant in operation would not happen until 2025. After a complaint that raw sewage is flowing from the sewer system in the Ash Street area, city engineer Karl Aucoin explained what the city’s plan is to upgrade the system.

U.S. Rep. Mike Johnson now represents all of St. Landry Parish and on Monday he held a town hall in Opelousas where constituents could learn a bit about him. And, maybe he learned something about the people he represents.

Eunice Police arrest four students at Eunice High

According Eunice Police Chief Kyle LeBouef, four students have been arrested following a fight at Eunice High Friday afternoon. Chief LeBouef said, “More arrests are expected. We have no information to lead that it was gang related.” An investigation is underway into the cause of the fight.

Dept. of Veterans Affairs office in Eunice The Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs has relocated its office in Eunice to the Northwest Community Center at 501 Samuel Drive. The office is open every Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. except for State and Federal holidays.

Rep. Johnson to hold town hall in Opelousas

U.S. Representative Mike Johnson (LA-04) will hold a town hall meeting on Monday to provide updates from Washington and take questions from constituents. The town hall event is open to the public and open to the media. The town hall in St. Landry Parish is scheduled from 2;30 to 3;30 p.m.

Eunice Mardi Gras launches with Taster’s Choice

The Cajun Mardi Gras Festival in Eunice begins Wednesday and is focused on the intersection of Walnut Avenue and 2nd Street. The Eunice Community Health Center is bringing back the 12th Annual Taster’s Choice at the LSUE Mumphrey Center from 6 to 9 p.m. Feb. 15.
