Take photos now says economic developer

St. Landry Parish economic developer Bill Rodier says to start taking photos now along Interstate 49 south of Opelousas because change is coming quick. That was one of Rodier’s message when called upon to speak at the Feb. 7 State of the Parish meeting at the Delta Grand Theatre in Opelousas.

St. Mathilda Church Lent dinners Fridays St. Mathilda Church will have Fried Fish and fish courtbouillon dinners fundraiser on every Friday during Lent. Pick up is from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Bishop Ceasar Center. A donation of $12 will be accepted.

Acadia Parish project is among those bid by DOTD

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announced Thursday that 21 projects around the state received bids recently. Seventeen contractors presented apparent low bids totaling $87.9 million.

School Board may ban hoodies

The St. Landry Parish School Board may ban hoodies from its campuses and events including athletic events. The ban is proposed as an addition to the school system’s dress code introduced at a Committee of the Whole Meeting on Thursday. Dwanetta Scott.

Eunice High’s longtime principal Fontenot to retire; will lead St. Edmund

Mitch Fontenot is retiring after 14 years as principal of Eunice High School and 33 years as a public school educator here. Fontenot responded to a request for information that highlights the success of his tenure at Eunice High School.

5-day Mardi Gras party draws crowds to Eunice

Alicia Mire is the city and parish tourism official and on Tuesday by the music stage talked about the five-day Eunice Mardi Gras celebration. “I didn’t know half the crowd that was here and our street was packed. That means that was tourists — people from all over,” she said.
