Acadiana DX Association Hamfest is Saturday The Acadiana DX Association is hosting a Hamfest and Swapmeet on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Rayne Civic Center located at 210 Frog Festival Drive in Rayne. A hamfest is a meeting of people interested in Amateur Radio.

Eunice Housing Authority to receive $1M for repairs

Cajun Prairie Society plans fundraising boucherie

The Cajun Prairie Habitat Preservation Society, an organization dedicated to the conservation of Southwest Louisiana’s endangered prairie ecosystem, is inaugurating their annual boucherie in Grand Coteau on March 18 and 19.

Beef Cook-off draws a crowd

The 37th St. Landry Cattlemen’s Association Here’s the Beef Cook-off on was a success, said Jay Guidry, association president. “Very nice,” he said. “We had one of the biggest trail rides we’ve had in awhile with about 150 horses. We figured we had about 850 people come through the gate.

St. Landry Parish sales tax collections grow 6.8%

St. Landry Parish sales tax collections grew 6.8% or $1,013,739 to a first two months of the year total of $15,890,413 compared to February 2022’s total of $14,876,674. Sales tax collections in February totaled $6,912,428, up $560,999 or 8.8% over February 2022’s total.

Eunice hotel-motel tax proposed

A hotel-motel occupancy tax has been proposed for the City of Eunice. Mayor Scott Fontenot said the tax has been talked about for at least 10 years, but nothing has happened to make it a reality. At the city’s February Board of Aldermen meeting, a resolution was passed to support the tax.

St. Mathilda Church Lent dinners Fridays St. Mathilda Church will have Fried Fish and fish courtbouillon dinners fundraiser on every Friday during Lent. Pick up is from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Bishop Ceasar Center. A donation of $12 will be accepted.

New pastor at First Baptist Church

The Rev. Andrew Bates is the new pastor at First Baptist Church in Eunice. Rev. Bates comes to Eunice from Baton Rouge. Rev. Bates has been married for the past eight years to his best friend Emily Smart Bates and the couple has one daughter Abigail who is two-years-old.

Church Point hospital Board remains without a chairman

The Acadia St. Landry Hospital Board of Commissioners is entering its eighth month without a chairman, and at this time, there is no set plan for completion of the U.S. Department of Agriculture loan application that would help fund the proposed construction of a new hospital facility.

Musicians celebrate birth date of Amédé Ardoin

Creole accordionists Joe Hall and Dexter Ardoin lead the monthly Zydeco Capital Jam from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. March 11 at the St. Landry Parish Visitor Center, I-49 exit 23, in Opelousas. The March jam is held in honor of Cajun and Creole music pioneer Amédé Ardoin.
