Bellard defends his budget in pre-meeting news release

In advance of the St. Landry Parish Council meeting on Wednesday, Parish President Jessie Bellard sent out a news release on his budget and budget process. A balanced 2023 budget would be reintroduced at the Parish Council meeting Wednesday and posted on stlandrypg.

Vietnam War ceremony planned

St. Landry Parish Veterans Memorial Commemoration of the Vietnam War will be held at 10:30 a.m. March 29 at the Veterans Memorial located on La. 182 South, Opelousas. More than 58,000 Americans were killed in the war, while more than 1,600 remain missing or unrecoverable.

Acadia Parish Sheriff to hold blood drive The Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office will host a Blood Drive from 7 to 10 a.m. Tuesday inside Vitalant Bloodmobile at 1037 Capitol Avenue in Crowley. Identification is required for donations.

Parish Government plans concert series

St. Landry Parish Government has announced the beginning of a monthly concert series called “Live & Local in St. Landry” at the Delta Grand, kicking off with Jeremy Fruge & the Zydeco Hotboyz at 7 p.m. April 1.

World Championship Crawfish Etouffee Cook-Off

The World Championship Crawfish Etouffee Cook-Off will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 26 at the Northwest Community Center pavilion in Eunice. There will be many cooking booths with their own chefs cooking their favorite crawfish etouffee and offering the public samples.

CLECO donates $250K to LSUE

Louisiana State University Eunice has received a $250,000 gift from CLECO Corporation to help support the upcoming STEAM Innovation Center on the campus of LSU Eunice, it was announced on Monday. The donation is the first public contribution towards the state-of-the-art facility.

Refinery’s mission serves men, God

The Refinery in Opelousas has guided men to productive lives and instilled in them a love of God in the mission that started in 1988. On Wednesday, Johnny Carrier talked to Eunice Rotarians about how his life led him to his role as executive director of The Refinery for 14 years.

Eunice Housing Authority renovates flood-damaged apartments

The Eunice Housing Authority expects to complete renovation of flood-damaged apartments at its Acadian Village site by fall. Angelia Guillory, executive director, said 30 units were damaged in the August 2016 flood and it took six and half years to get funding for the renovation work.
