Teachers’ Retirement pays $83M in Tri-Parish

The Teachers’ Retirement System of Louisiana (TRSL) reports Tri-Parish retirement dollars paid in 2022 totaled $83,365,094. Tri-Parish recipients averaged $25,690 per year. TRSL reports paying $630 million in retirement income to retirees and beneficiaries in Acadiana.

Tri-Parish workforce down 0.5%

The Tri-Parish workforce in February was down 312 people or 0.5% compared to a year ago in February, according to Louisiana Workforce Commission statistics released Tuesday. The report also shows Tri-Parish unemployment rates are holding steady.

Vet Fest grows

About 100 people attended Vet Fest at LSUE on Saturday where a two-hour symposium was loaded with information for veterans and their families. John Hamlin, vice chancellor of Academic Affairs and provost at LSUE, welcomed the participants and attendees.

Bulb & Blossom meeting set April 4 The Eunice Bulb and Blossom Garden Club will meet at 5:30 p.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. A social will begin at 5:30 p.m. and at 6 p.m. the meeting will begin. Lynn Pavich will be a hostess of “Easter symbols and Native Lore.

Easy ways to sprout seeds

Submitted by the Eunice Bulb and Blossom Garden Club An fun, easy, and inexpensive way to grow plants is to start them from seeds indoors. It increases the number of sprouts and give the young seedlings a head start on the growing season. Mason Jar – this method works better with larger seeds.

LABI eyes insurance, tax reform budget and education in session

(March 30) — Some good things can happen in the upcoming Legislative Session. Some good things can happen in the upcoming statewide elections. Unfortunately, because of the latter, officials with the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry are not very hopeful about the former.

School Board to learn who superintendent applicants are this week

The St. Landry Parish School Board is to learn this week who has applied for the superintendent’s job. Courtney Joiner, the Board’s attorney, said he and the superintendent’s secretary will retrieve the applications from a post office box on Tuesday. Applications were due March 24.
