Cajun Prairie Habitat Preservation Society to meet Saturday

The Cajun Prairie Habitat Preservation Society’s annual spring meeting will be held on Saturday in Eunice. The meeting starts with a tour of the 10-acre Eunice prairie park, 650 E. Magnolia Ave., at 8 a.m.

Memorial Day exhibit planned at Le Vieux Presbytère

Le Vieux Presbytère Museum, located at 205 Rue Iry Lejeune in Church Point, invites family members of deceased veterans to contribute memorabilia to the museum’s Memorial Day exhibit, which will be unveiled at 11 a.m., May 27.

Registrar: Voters with changes to receive new Voter IDs

St. Landry Parish Registrar of Voters Byron J. Stelly announced completion of state redistricting and there were several changes in the state senate, state representative, and BESE (Board of Elementary and Secondary Education) districts.

Can parish school enrollment increase?

Newly named St. Landry Parish School Superintendent Milton Batiste charted a tough course for the parish school district’s enrollment. During his presentation to the School Board, Batiste said increasing school enrollment is a “quick win’ way to improve the district’s finances.

Concealed Carry Permit class set Saturday The St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office will host a one day concealed carry permit training class beginning at 7:30 a.m. Saturday at 211 West Park, in Eunice The course is $100 and $80 for a spouse or renewal.

DIY indoor composting

You can have an indoor composting container without smells, bugs or rodents and it can be an easy to maintain manageable size. The secret is maintaining a balance of 4 parts dry (brown) to 1-part wet (green) materials and mixing the compost 2-3 times a week.

Coushatta Tribe announces 26th annual Powwow June 9-10

KINDER — The Coushatta Tribe of Louisiana will host its 26th annual powwow in The Pavilion at Coushatta Casino Resort on Friday and Saturday, June 9-10. Admission for the general public is $8 per day; children ages 6 years and younger are admitted free of charge.

Lane to close on U.S. 190

The outside lane of U.S. 190 westbound will be closed at the St. Landry/Evangeline Parish line near Eunice on Monday from 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., weather permitting. This closure is necessary to allow crews to remove drift from Bayou des Cannes.

LSUE Phi Theta Kappa chapter wins national awards

The LSU Eunice chapter of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) recently took home several major honors at the organization’s National Conference, Catalyst 2023, it was recently announced. For a fourth consecutive year, the LSUE chapter was named a “Top 100” chapter in the world.
